Holy crap! That's a big question to ask. LA is huge.
I guess it depends on what you like to eat and what part of town you'll be in.
There's every type of cuisine you can think of here. Indian, Italian, Cuban, Peruvian, Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, German, Brazilian, Chinese, Sushi, Ethiopian, seafood, steak joints, BBQ, burger joints......... |

Philippes on Alameda a little north of Union Station in downtown.

Tito's Taco's "You'll love Tito's too"
Try the toco's they rock, burrito's are good but different.

Apple Pan (Has it's own wiki article)
Try any burger with cheese!

Astro Burger (Santa Monica and Vista)
Double burger with chili and cheese.

THIS WILL BE BY FAR THE GREATEST SANDWICH EVER IN YOU LIFE!
I've been going to Giamela's Submarine Sandwiches since I was a kid. Place rocks. Just remember to be hungry. This place is a secret in LA so never posted this place. Sandwiches are 6 lbs for about 5 bucks. I recommend the Pepper Steak sandwich.
Giamela's Submarine Sandwiches
3178 Los Feliz Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90039

Taix is pretty good French Food, but if I may make a suggestion, go up the 2 into Glendale, and find Lawry's Tam o'Shanter (I think it's on Glendale Blvd. right where you start heading towards Los Feliz/Griffith Park) . Prime Rib to die for.
Even though you're covered on Mexican, I have to toss in Manuel's El Tepeyac off Soto Street.
Lastly, Burger Continental in Pasadena, South ass end of Lake, just before it hits San Marino. Go with some friends and hit up the Armenian Feast. |

in the process of moving to LA and went on an adventure to Max's of Manila - some wild food - oxtails, pork skins and lots o' other stuff I wasn't sure of..."famous" for fried chicken but go for the oddities. Think it was broadway in glendale? It's online, but fun...all sorts of fried skins and intestines. |

Tam O'Shanter is on Los Feliz Blvd., south of San Fernando Rd. Up the street a couple o' blocks from Giamela's. Giamela's is next door to the Bigfoot Lodge, where I played bingo last night.
One of my favorite restaurants is Musso & Frank's in Hollywood. Oldest restaurant in LA.
I also recommend......
Mamita's in Glendale (Peruvian)
Gaucho's in Glendale (Brazilian)
El Siete Mares in Echo Park (Mexican)
Dr. Hogly Wogly's in Van Nuys (great BBQ!)
Sushi Go 55 in Little Tokyo (Downtown)
El Colmao on Pico east of Vermont (Cuban)
Mezbaan Indian Cuisine in Pasadena
Alegria in Silverlake (Mexican)
Langer's deli on Alvarado (best Jewish deli in LA)
That should keep you busy for a week. |
