16 years ago when I was still in the screenprintin biz (do you ever really leave it?)...it was all Beefy T's (Hanes) and FOL.
Just based on shirts I've picked up recently...I like the Gildans a lot, and another brand I've seen that I like is Quail Hollow. Don't know the weights on the Quail Hollow (or anything else), but I'm guessing upper med. Not a full heavy cotton...but not cheese cloth either. |

I like the FOL Best 50/50s. They're light and don't shrink as much as the 100% cottons like Heavy or the thick ass Lofteez. Thinner Gildans aren't bad. You risk see thru on any cheaper/lighter shirt, but it depends on if it's a darker or lighter color. For some reason darks seem much thicker than lights. A white 'Best' is nearly see through, while a dark holds up well.
That's my ideal, but you can't keep your detail on the lighter colors as well and it's hell to get anything really opaque on there. The darks work, but I don't think I'd put the time into doing process on them if you want it to look right. Good process should always be on the heavier shirts. Just meant to be that way.
The problem I always have with the cheaper/lighter ("promo") shirts is the ridiculous amount of lint on them. At my old job we'd have a screen fully taped and spray glue on it so it would pick as many up as possible before getting anything like process that shouldn't be hit twice.
The past few orders I got a lighter weight 100% cotton Hanes. They're pretty nice though bigger cuts than Gildan. |
