Is Meat Week intentionally scheduled for during the Super Bowl weekend? That's going to throw a real wrench into the plans down here, not just because of how obnoxious it will be to get around for a few days, but because of various SB obligations as well... |

Allright, my fucking camera is on the shits, so, it's gonna be a verbal update on a daily basis.
Sunday, Meatloaf with Mushroom gravy, Garlic Mashers and cracklin' cornbread from John's City Diner. (Ate the leftovers for dinner. HUGE portions at this palce.)
Monday, 3 Chili dogs from Jimmy's for lunch. Grilled Conecuh sausage with biscuits for dinner.
Tuesday, lunch is still up in the air. Depends on how busy I am at work. Dinner will consist of oven roasted pork tenderloin and cornbread stuffing.
Sorry about breakin' rules. But, I was once a skateboarder. |

The Miami Meat Week Chapter started tonight.
I saved myself for the evening, eating only a chocolate frosted Entenmann's donut and some KC Masturbates potato chips during the day. I was daydreaming about BBQ during the last hour or so of class this afternoon.
Our first destination was Uncle Toms, located on SW 8th St. in Coral Gables, about a mile or so west of Little Havana. Since there is no apostrophe in the name to indicate ownership, I was expecting multiple servile Negroes. There were no Negroes to be found--subservient or otherwise.
While waiting for our third musketeer, THM and I ordered our drinks. I asked our waiter whether they served sweet tea, which I realize was a longshot for around here, but it looked like they may have known what was up.
I received a large tumbler full of regular old iced tea (garnished with a mammoth lime eighth) and a container of sugar. Disappointing...
The interior was a cozy affair (we opted against the outdoor seating, as it was in the low 60s/upper 50s around dinner time--brrrrr!!!) with black and white photographs festooning the walls, some of which featured movie stars eating at the joint dating all the way back to 1948.
The food was satisfying. I had a full slab of baby back ribs, fries, and baked beans. THM had the beef plate with fries and black beans, and our friend Drew had the chicken and ribs combo plate with baked beans and cole slaw. I bet nobody else had side choices of fried plantains or yucca.
I opted to use the sweet sauce, as the regular sauce had a strange undertone. It was almost like a chimichurri or a mojo sauce. I spent far too long trying to identify the subtle taste by lubing up fries with it and mulling it over like cud. It took probably 10 or 12 fry applications (while my ribs grew cool) to identify it, but I wouldn't have been able to focus on the rest of my food had I just ignored it. I finally placed it as the unusual tangy-dirt taste I associate with those little cans of Limeaid concentrate I used to hate as a child. I guess I still hate them, I just don't have to drink them anymore...
The sweet sauce was nice and smoky, but was totally lacking in the heat department. I doubt I'll even get heartburn tonight.
Tomorrow we head south to Homestead where we'll try the Redland Rib House.
***Derek-->Please feel free to cut and paste this to the MW forum. I do not have a Space and do not intend to, so I can't post it there myself...
***Jody-->It's a date. Hopefully we can squeeze it in after some uh, appetizers at the Dub household... |

You fellas are bringing a tear to my eye. Your commitment is amazing.
I will update the other Meat Week chapters with your progress.
Sunday was good, I missed last night, and probably won't be able to make it out again until tomorrow. I've been real busy with work and the move and all.
Yours in meat.
