I dunno, I can enjoy street skating. Not that I do it a lot, but i can enjoy and respect it, watching someone skate street that is good. I think half the problem is that a lot of these kids come into skateboarding and just skip the basics. Immediately, they are trying kickflips, launching down flights of stairs, and hitting rails, Because that's what they see and that's what they want to do and that's what's "Cool" to them.
We had it differently. We grew up with the beginning stages of skateboarding. We started out with the basics because that's all there was. seeing someone rip for us was watching them ollie up a curb or do a shitload of 360's. We progressed as skateboarding progressed. We all learned stuff as it was being invented. I think there's a big advantage there, as we weren't thrown into the mess at the height of popularity when it is so far advanced and technical. I feel sorry for kids these days sometimes. they don't have the chance to get used to the board before they're fucking killing themselves down a handrail or set of stairs. I think what you guys are seeing as far as kids trying things a milion times and never landing are the newcomers to skateboarding that are thrown into this technical mess without getting the basics. That and the fact that skateboarding is so popular now, that every kid is picking it up results in 200 newbies to skateboarding hanging at the parks trying their 360 flips.
Just my $.02. To make a long story short, I think street skating gets a bad rap because we associate these young newcomers who are just beginning, to the skills of every street skater. |

Indeed. Pool, Park, Pipe, Bowlriding, Ramps, Slalom, Luge, Downhill, Longboarding, Street style and Freestyle were all prominant in Thrasher in its early yearsthe foundation the mag grew on and so sadly abandoned for so long. |

Street skating wears boards out faster, which generates sales.
It's all about the money.
SELL, SELL, SELL!
Whatever happened to FUN, FUN, FUN? |
