my next set of pool decks are gonna incorporate snowboard topsheet material for the base ply. I have been tinkering with this idea for awhile, and I think it should have some merit. I weighed a standard ply of maple and a similar size sheet of this, and the weight difference seems negligible. I have yet to see how the ride and flex of the board will be affected, but it will let me use some of my more complicated graphics via sublimation, and I am hoping will react like a slick to some degree. If this works I will next use it on the hill bombers I am finishing the mold for right now. Final plan for that is to use that, a 6 ply maple core, sandwiched around a bamboo inner core, and fiberglassing the top, with 3 carbon fiber stringers. It will be a hevier longboard, but i am hoping it will have good merits for a downhill board. I will get pics up as soon as possible, and any thoughts are welcome. BTW, nice to talk to you guys again, its been awhile (school has diverted funds from boardmaking for too long now lol.) Happy crafting everyone

For this application, I see no reason for it to not work out.
6 plys with carbon stringers would be enough to feel like a deck, same flex ect.
The only problem would be durability against abrasion, like a street deck, or something that conacts cement.
The top sheets are very brittle (depending on the manu.) if they are the standard ones, and not the urethane top sheets some people use.
You should be able to make some crazy looking graphics.
I would laminate them with epoxy.
Show us some results!!

yeh i thought about abrasion, it will be an issue for the pool decks. The downhill race decks it wont really be an issue at all since the deck rarely contacts the ground (at least when things are going right lol) I plane on using higher end topsheet material, i am researching the materials right now. well ill post pics soon.

It works.
It's funny when I let my friends slide an unwaxed curb on my deck then they go back to their wood deck and can't slide.

Here is a link to a bunch of decks (90% of them anyway) built similar to the way your thinking about trying to build. Have fun the crap isn't fun to work with or cheap. We got the process dialed in and can run one offs any time with no limits to detail. OLIVE MFG. INC.

Adrian,
whats the deal dude, are you just out to jump on my posts?

Its not the first time either.

I have no problem with what you do. I don't question your skills.
Chill the fuck out and go look for some real haters.

If it pisses you off that I get to do this shit, well that sucks. Just realize that I am fine with you doing it and I am not trying to make you look bad.

Seems all to common amoung skateboard makers.

I try to refrain from it.

whoa, you got me wrong man. I'm not wound up like that.
you seem kinda ticked about something but I don't know.
me explaining that we're not taking a loss is hardly any type of aggression.
doesn't really look like you're refraining at all does it?

Not agression. More like passive agression.
Much like this:
