| I get lots of graphics from bigger contracts in Illustrator format (either .ai, or .eps) and do separations in Photoshop. For any photorelaistic stuff, like sim process, 4 clr process use Photoshop. I have had realy band experiences with Corel Draw, especially when jumping from Illustrator to Corel. Illustrator is really great for redrawing stuff |

| if its made in lilustrator woulding the sepertions be easy? or don't they layer their stuff? if they don't i think it would still be easier |

For flat color separations here's the COMPLETELY GHETTO way of doing them in Illustrator. (This is from using Illustrator since Illustrator 88...it's a bit more labor intensive, but goof proof)
Let's say you have a 4 color graphic. Black trap, and 3 spots.
Place registration marks on the original composited image in BLACK.
Save the image ("Save as" name of color) 4 times.
Black Screen. Delete all colors but the black trap. Save.
Color 1. Select Menu. Select same fill color. Everything in this color becomes selected. Lock, or hide, or something. Select everything else (except registration marks) delete. Unlock or show originally selected color. Stoke with 1 or 2 pts of same color to ensure trap. Select all. Change to black. Save. Ready to burn a screen with.
Color 2. Select Menu. Select same fill color. Everything in this color becomes selected. Lock, or hide, or something. Select everything else (except registration marks) delete. Unlock or show originally selected color. Stoke with 1 or 2 pts of same color to ensure trap. Select all. Change to black. Save. Ready to burn a screen with.
Color 3. Select Menu. Select same fill color. Everything in this color becomes selected. Lock, or hide, or something. Select everything else (except registration marks) delete. Unlock or show originally selected color. Stoke with 1 or 2 pts of same color to ensure trap. Select all. Change to black. Save. Ready to burn a screen with.
I'm on Illustrator 10 now. It's up to CS2. There's probably a much more automated way to do this...but this works just fine.
Also I believe in CS2..Streamline is built into Illustrator. That would be cool, since Streamline never made the jump to OSX in Mac. |

I use Pen In Hand 1.0 and Mr. Xerox at the copy shop with some acitate.
How's that for ghetto? |

you can sep out f Illustrator, but I have never done it because I have only been using Illy for a year. In photoshop you can do your own trapping and halftone overlays.
-Save the image from Illustrator in .EPS format
-Drag and open in Photoshop
-Select the "color range" tool and select the first colour, make sure the box that says "invert" is checked
-Save that selection as a new CHANNEL (this will be what each film looks like) Save that channel as a spot colour, choose the colour of the ink and set solidity to 100%
-Do this for each colour in the design.
-If you need to trap select individual black from individual channels and give them a 2px stroke along the centerline.
-Send each channel to the printer and wait.
There's a really good book on using Photoshop for screen printing apps. |

| i just tried that. that works really good. i mean this is what photo shop is for so i guess it makes sense. |

| At my shop we print the ink colour, the mesh count and what number it is in the print order, as a label directly on the film. If you are doing sim process you can change around the order of the screens to see what it will look like set up differently, you can also preview pantone colours on the films. |
