I ended up being one of the race marshals at the bottom of the hill--moved my car across both lanes to ensure no vehicles could go up the hill while the racers came down. Somebody had to do it, and it was too damn chilly for me to race. I was majorly stiff that morning too. Not a good combo.
As for the race.... total insanity!! This hill is so steep, so long, and so curvy... it was taking the luge guys 300 yards with noses pulled skyward and heels dug in to come to a stop--they still blew past into the rough.
One dude, fortunately in full leathers, came screaming across the finish line spinning out of control on his knee pads and elbow pads! Completely off the hook!! |
