well its not really a factory and this isnt much of a tour but here we go.
Here is my "Darkroom", a beat down bathroom nobody uses in my basement.
Here is my exposure unit, perfectly located behind my TV and next to my furnace.
And here is my exposed screen along side of a deck printed by a real factory. I took out the lettering because my screen is a little short of deck length.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope this inspires you. Post up your shit! |

you can print between the trucks with some slack in your screen. This is my first big screen and I'll only be printing on flat stuff. full deck screens are a total pain in the ass. |

hey trashcan
that looks great, i like your set-up. It's alot like mine. Have you printed the angel on the board yet. Did you have problems using a flat screen to print over and down the tail. I'm getting stck on that all the time. i spoke to this guy who is abit of a legend in Englan 9Don Brider) and he told me the way he used to do it was having the flat screen on a pivot, so as you went obver the tail (or nose) you would tip the screen up and it would lie flat along the tail/nose , sounds like a mission but i'm told it works real well.

hmm thats a pretty good idea never thought of that.
I printed on venner b4 having it pressed. The only problem i had was with the ink. I have to get a higher mesh count. 156 is way too low. If you screen is loose you can print like 20" of the board. Having a pivit seems like a rad idea but who the fuck knows how you handle that beast.
I'm gonna try to print some more veneer with a higher mesh and see what happens. I'll prob try the loose screen technique too. Maybe I'll try that pivot shit if I can comprehend how to print smoothly while piviting a screen. There is also the bent screen but those seem to be a bitch...maybe one for a base coat would be cool but thats about it. |

The pivot screen idea seems mental. I forgot to mention how he did it. Basically (and this is no shit), he'd print between the trucks and as the print came over to the tail/nose he would press on a foot pedal which was attached to a rope which was attached to the end of the screen on the pivot. So it pulled the screen down to the exact place to print the tail. That takes some serious skill, as i said, he is something of a legend. I saw some thing on the industry section of 411 issue 7 (i think). It was the Screaming Squeegies section. There was this one clip where there were these 2 guys printing decks with a long flat screen (again on a pivot). One pulled the squeegy, the other tipped the screen. They made it look really easy. I must have watched that bit a thousand times. Are those Screaming Squeegies guys still around? They were Rad.

I just searched all over the web as well as IRc for that video - no go.... I'll see if the local shop still has a copy.
