My very first board ever was a second hand cheapo Canadian Tire board that I put a full deck Roscop face sticker on. My first real board was a pink McGill with a metalic blue snake skin background, titan trucks, and pink mini-rats. |

The Aussie classic - a Surfa Sam (the long one in a natural wood/ varnish finish).
It was the first of many boards...... |

first- Sure Grip "Avenger". For some reason, I was always under the impression that Sure Grip was a small step above Variflex, Valterra and Nash. Any truth to that? The main reason why I thought that was because my local shop carried that brand, but not the other 3. I didn't feel like a totaly poser because at least my board was on the wall with all the cool Powells and Santa Cruzs, where as my friends got their Valterra's at the mall.
First real one- Jeff Kendall- "fingers blowing up the world". unfortunately, I was still riding the trucks and wheels from the Sure Grip.... |

Nash Heat Zone (orange/blue)
Hawk Mini Iron Cross-Dragon....went to visit my uncle in California (Berkely/SF) in summer of 87. I was 9 and bought it with all the money I had left for the trip. My Aunt and Uncle looked at me like I was nuts buying a deck with NO WHEEL or TRUCKS. Shit was expensive back then too.
I will never forget going into that store, being from Buffalo, being 9 and buying that fucker. I was like "Fuck everyone, I know it all and I ain't leaving without this deck no matter how many times they tried to talk me out of it"....Damn I feel proud! That decision was a very big one know that I look back.
Got home and all the older guys called me a poser because I had my dad buy me the hardware. Fuck them, I was 9 for Christ's sake. Still have both boards today. |

I had a black Ceyote GT black with dark red wheels, not that I was really into it yet though. Think I was 8 or 9, but when I hit about 13/14 I got a black/blue Agent Orange with white tracker ultralights and Blue Powells I think. Wish I still had that one about now. |
