I'm about 99% with you AC.

If and when I eat soup, I put tons of Keebler club crackers in it to thicken it up. It's basically a stew when I get done with it. All the fat in the crackers pretty much counteract the healthiness of the soup.

Creamy soups rule. Plain old tomato soup is only acceptable when dipping grilled cheese sandwiches in it. It is not a standalone meal. A rich and hearty New England clam chowder can be a standalone meal. Heated V8 can not.

French Onion soup may as well be boiling water with an old Wyler's bullion cube thrown in, and the only thing that distinguishes it from every other boring assed light-on-additives brothy soup is the funny burned cheese hat it gets to wear.

A relatively plain brothy soup is useless, just like plain hamburgers, cheese pizza, water, and vanilla ice cream. How about a flavor to go with your food, Mr. Excitement? Otherwise it's just an edible substance, not food.

I'm not down on the broth-based soups by any means, but if it's plain with few additives, it's just saltwater.

I checked these out @ the grocery yesterday...other than being "handy", I don't see the appeal. Pretty damn expensive for what it is --- Like I say, it's all about the sales & marketing.

I do like it that Campbells is putting pop-tops on their cans - the right handed can opener issue will haunt me to my grave. That, and scissors.

How 'bout a nice lobster bisque?...

@lush
Not so "expensive" when my per diem pays for it...I bought the 4 pack of tomato for $4.99....or should I say, my client paid for it.

Tried the "Chicken of Stars" and "Pizza" this weekend. Neither were too bad, nor too great. I guess I just like plain tomato.

Also, I tend to be the type to pile a ton of crackers to make my soups (chili, gumbo, etc) to make it more of a mash than soup, but I am trying to get out of the habit. (and for the health conscious, fat free saltines work great).

sorry to say fellas, but campbells is just flavored water. have any of you ever had a good crab bisque? now thats a SOUP!!!!

@TGM- i agree with most of rant about soups, but i must disagree and say that vanilla ice cream is the BEST flavor. if you can't make agood vanilla ice cream you can't make good ice cream....period!!

I dunno about the ads in Transworld.. All of them seem to feature Bucky Lasek trying to leave his house for a killer session, but his damned wife and kids are nagging his ass to stay.. And he's got this sheepish "what can you do?" look on his face whilst trying to force some Campbell's soup at hand down his throat and get the hell out of that suburban prison.

They should just change the slogan to:

"Soup At Hand.. Because you're too busy fighting off the family to skate or eat a decent meal, you poor, miserable bastard.."

I'm somehow reminded of the soup nazi on Seinfeld...

Gotta say, I'm not a fan of soup. Miso is OK, though. Those ads with Bucky Lasek make me cringe.
