You also need to set that shutter speed to 1/250th of a second or so to capture action.
Here's a few I have shot with an old Nikon Coolpix:
This first one was shot at 1/250, the others were shot at automatic shutter speed, which is usually 1/60 or so... no good for action.
In daytime, shoot with the sun at your back or to the side, unless you have massive doses of flash lighting.
