I'm from Cardiff so it has to be anywhere that serves the legendary CLARK'S PIE!

Nothing like chomping on a Clarkie as you head back from the pub in a Brain's SA induced fug (Or Stella in my case).

Anyway...my faves are as follows.

Albany Fish Bar/Penylan Fish Bar - Roath, Cardiff - both owned by the same people, they're ok but the batter's too heavy for me. Well rated by most though, so I'll put 'em up here. 'Top sglods!' as we say in Wales.

Tony's - Caroline Street (Chippy Lane), Cardiff - Home of the best chicken off the bone curry you'll ever taste (at least that's how it seems at 4a.m.). Saw my mate chase a battered sausage that was rolling down the piss-soaked street and shove it straight in his mouth when he caught it...must be good.

Carlo's - Boverton, Llantwit Major - BEST. CHIPPY. EVER.

Dunno the name - top of Crwys Road off Gabalfa roundabout, Cardiff - old style chippy, Clarke's pies, Pukka pies, great chips. I like this place but don't remember what it's called.

Devonshire Chippy - Devonshire Street, Sheffield - Good northern style chippy right opposite the legendary skate-shop 'Sumo'. Gets in here on location alone.

AVOID

Harry Ramsden's - fucking over-rated shite with shonky portions and high prices. IT COMES ON A PLATE! Avoid.

Actually, now I think of it, the best chippy I've ever been to is in Aberyswyth...even better than Carlo's...no idea what it's called though. All the best ones are by the sea. Oh well...you've heard my locals now anyway.

What about yours?

Hey kid,
I'll trade you an Alabama Barbecue Tour for a Welsh Fish & Chips Tour.

All we gotta do is get to each other's respective areas of the globe, and it's on!

Haha Zodiac! That's a great idea! Need to take in a few countries and food types and make a TV series while we're at it

Wales rules!

Shame about the lack of vowels, though.

Bt whtvr d mn b tht, Dngrstcks?

I generally only eat fish if I can convince myself that I am possibly near where it could have come from. Appetizer and soup sorts of water creatures excepted, of course.

Why order fish when there's beef on the menu?

Because you're at your table, having your appetizer, and you see the guys bringing the crates of Grouper down the pier jutting off the back of the Restaurant. You get up to watch them unload the boats & you can still see the Grouper's gills moving. That's why you order fish when there's beef on the menu. ("Oliver's Lodge", Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina)

But, I guess that falls under your "water proximity" rule.
