I liked Tent City. But..I am also a big fan of Nichols/Charnosky videos. I like the fact that they focus on the broader issues in skateboarding friends, traveling, skating for fun, etc. Somebody needs to.
If its just hardcore skating you want - check out concussion.org Damaged DVD. By far my favorite video as far as that kind of stuff goes.

Guess it's just more geared for us 'Northwest Heads'. F'N RULED.
There's plenty of 'skateboard trick' videos out there for you if it's not your thing. Guess the A.H. team liked their style enough to go with it? Again, RULED.

'skateboard trick' videos? I don't know, I just like watching skate videos with actual skating in them... I know that's crazy. And there are a lot of skate videos out there, but that's not a reason to not want another one with the anti hero team in it. If I like something, I want as much of it as possible. I liked the other AH vids, so I wanted more of that. It's great that they tried something new (although not that great... it's not like their musicians or some shit, it's a fucking skate video), but I think their "experiment" came out horrible, and sort of contradicts what I thought these guys were all about.
The extra footage is great, though. That's the video I was looking for. |

How does it contradict what they are all about? Tent City was a documentary that focused on their travels in Austrailia for a month. It was about going out there and searching for new shit to skate, and the camraderie and experiences that goes along with it. I still think it was rad. |

In their past videos it seemed like they weren't about anything but skating. You didn't really get an idea of what kind of people these guys are, you just saw them skating, and skating well... maybe there was some footage of them fucking around and drinking or whatever, but it didn't look like they were trying to give you a look into their lives or anything... they're skaters, not celebrities. I might be alone on this one, but I don't care about what skaters I'm watching in skate videos are like. I just like watching people skate, and that, for the most part, is what the other AH vids provided.
In Tent City they seem to be trying to create an image for themselves. Kind of like when a kid spends a long time fixing his hair so it looks like he doesn't care about his hair. The whole "overproduced to look underproduced" thing.
I don't know if I'm getting my point across well. I have a hard time saying (er... typing) what I mean. I'm over it. I don't really dislike the video anymore because the extra footage is rad, and it makes me satisfied with the purchase. |
