I just got this video, and damn am I disappointed. It's nothing like other Anti Hero videos. So much boring, non-skating footage and bullshit. Skating isn't supposed to be poetic and artsy. Get rid of all the long panning scenic mountain shots! Basically, it's got some sparse footage of decent skating in crappy parks and even crapier random spots, with a lot of dumb-sounding dudes trying to explain how skating makes them feel and what sort of people skaters are (which even smart-sounding people shouldn't do). There's so much non-skating bullshit footage in there. I want another Cash Money Vagrant... or how's about a dvd with high-quality video of footage like that in the "bull video" (great video, but horrible quality)? Some of the video in tent city looks so good, during the rare moments that they take off the "make it look shitty" filter. I want a whole video like that. That'd be way better than this.
Damn, I was all stoked on it to. I was anticipating a nice non-handrail oriented video, which seems rare these days.
Anyone else see this video yet? I'd love to hear other people's opinions whether they agree or disagree.

If you don't like the "shitty filter" on this video you must've really hated Fucktards when they use the old gameboy video stuff! I like all the anti-hero videos because they are all just different enough from the norm to make them refreshing, even with all the artsy stuff. That's Rick and Buddy's style though. |

With most tour videos you're going to get a fair amount of commentary along with the skating. But Tent City is hard to compare to the other Anti-hero vids simply because it has the Nichols/Charnosky signature touch to it. I like the fact that a variety of styles in skate videos exist; you have documentary, informational, trick-tips, full of skits and jokes, just pure skating etc. No, Im not going to watch a documentary to get me pumped before a session, but I sure as hell will watch it drinking a brew after the sesh. And for those who didnt feel like there was enough skating, the special features do total justice for picking up the slack. |

I haven't had a chance to check out the extras, and was hoping that maybe they stuck all the skating in there, so that could redeem it a bit. It's not that I hate the "shitty filter", it's that I hate when it's used on the skimpy amount of skating footage. And in previous anti hero vids, it seems like the video quality is shitty because it was filmed with low budget equipment... like just friend's filming each other, which is cool. It's just kind of lame when they have high quality footage and purposely make it look low quality. That might be fine to have a few artistic-looking parts, but when most of the skating footage is done that way, I'm not a fan.

I watched the extras, and I must admit they rocked. The first thing on the bonus menu was miscellaneous extra footage, which was almost all skating and clocked in somewhere between 10 and 20 minutes. There were a few other extras with a lot of additional skating footage, including a contest. All this makes me much happier with the video. |

I sold my Northwest dvd because I couldn't stand the "Charnowski effect". It's all personal prefernce I suppose...I prefer Eastern Exposure/Dan Wolfe style. Straight up skating! |

They should have used good quality film - the super 8 looks jerky when filming something fast like skating, its ok in small doses but not a whole video |

its a documentary! documentaries have commentary and if its a travel documentary, expect it to have footage of the scenery! I thought it was fucking rad to see those guys traveling around with just the shit in their backpacks and living in tents like nomads. The best shit is seeing them climb into those huge silo things and skating, and skating that huge elbow pipe. it's definately not a video you watch to get psyched to skate, but it's definatley a chill video... |

dude,
i have to agree. the super 8 look was a little annoying, there was way too much. It ruined the vid.. I am a huge fan of all the other antihero videos and i was totally bummed on this vid..i appreciate the raw footage like the old vids. actualy the extra footage is better than the vid itself. |
