Twisted uneven concave

I just started skating again after taking a 20+ year break. I've ordered a few decks and a lot of them have issues with the concave, i.e. one side of the deck has deeper concave than the other, and/or there's a twist in the deck (you look longways down the deck and you can see the wood is twisted).

Is this the result of a faulty drying method, like using a microwave?

I never noticed this problem with decks back in the day (1980's - early 90's). Seemed like they were always perfect.

A twisted deck is especially bothersome to me. Seems like the twist would push down on each truck in an opposite way, making them turn in an opposite direction, which then puts torsional force on the wheels, hindering their ability to spin freely (depending on how carvy your trucks are, of course).

Is this actually acceptable these days? If I spend $55 - $75 for a deck, it needs to be close to perfect. Decks made in Mexico seem to be the most prone to these issues. Don't even get me started on un-centered truck holes.

I've not seen any of the top wood shops using microwaves.

Wood warps and twists due to humidity, temperature and pressure and, more importantly, because its been pressed too hard and the molecules have been crushed allowing the water inside to leach out.

Wood never dies until its burnt or crushed, and it will often do what it wants to do.

Odds are it was pressed too hard or it cooked in your trunk.

Uneven concave? Sounds like amatuer stuff or they put too many decks in the press. What brand are the decks?

Purchased the Thiebaud wrench justice spoof from the local shop and noticed the nose had a twist when I got home
Shop will more than likely let me swap it out for another but I will know to check next time.

Do a word search for it on the forum and you'll find the cat that made them.

Cool man. And I just checked the "Deck Restoration" section and found some great info.
