Found in full cardiac arrest. Not breathing. Taken off of life support when they realized there was no brain activity.

That "Free Falling" video, with Eric Nash skating the mini ramp, hit within' my first few years skateboarding. It was pretty rad to see skateboarding on VH1 (no MTV), in a small, nowhere town, in Minnesota.
Who didn't like Petty? I mean, to some degree. |

FYI: Apparently not technically dead, yet. They took him off life support at the hospital after they noticed there was no brain activity—he was found in full cardiac arrest and not breathing so his brain was likely starved to death of oxygen. His body apparently continues to breath but its just a matter of time till that shuts down—there is no chance of brain activity returning.
I dug his early stuff. |
