Not a lot of traffic in the ramp section and I want a bunch of input so... Gonna build a 3'4"x 16' mini halfpipe in the back for my 12yr old. Looking for input on radius of the transition. I was thinking 7.5'?? Also looking for input on ramp surface. I am thinking of three different options. one layer of 3/8" plywood then 1/4" sanded birch, or one layer of 3/8" and then a top layer of sanded 3/8" plywood, or one layer of 1/2" and then 1/4" sanded birch. |

The 1/2 inch with 1/4 sanded birch is about the thinnest I'd go with.
That may actually be too thin.
( would be for my fat ass! )
How far apart are you spacing the 2x4's?
7.5 for the tranny is also as low as I would go. |

8" spacing on the 2x4's
Any other transition length you would do?
As for the layers. Mainly young(light) skaters on it. I can always add another layer in a couple years if needed. |

I'd go 2 layers of 3/8 and 6.5-7' radius.1/4" birch will be a good riding Surface. A little steeper will be faster and a 12 yr old is gonna get really good in a couple years of regular skating. They'll get bored if the ramp is too mellow |

Alright, here is the plan so far. Materials being delivered tomorrow. 3'5" high with a 6'10" transition. 16' wide with 2 3/8" OD steel coping. Extension on one side (don't know width and height yet). One layer 1/2" and the top layer sanded 1/4" I will be painting the whole thing tan/brown. Going in between some trees and over a perennial garden. Pictures to come. |

Went with 7' radius. This is the first layer of 1/2". Boy had to try it out. Sits nicely in the yard.
Tarped in the back

What a great setting. 7 ft radius is nice, you can add on more height and it'll be even better:) |

Nice addition to the yard.
And that much less grass to mow. |

Looks good, but I would add another leca block (support thing, not sure if it's the american name) under the transitions or you'll stand the risk that anyone heavier than that kid will stomp them off and it would be a nightmare to fix after the fact. |
