Yeah, I know, hella entry-level. But dude this tape is still "important" to me.
On paper, it is pretty much everything I consider sucky about American punk/HC....metal-ey non-rocking riffs, breakdowns, with a teenage suburban American kid talking/singing about typical BS like social pressures, how everyone is growing up, etc. Zzzzz zzzz zzz.
But I don't know, I just still love it.
Anyone here see them play? |

I pretty much love it for all the sucky reasons cited: kick-ass fast catchy riffs, breakdowns, with a teenage suburban American kid talking/singing about how goddamn grown-ups and cliquey teenage peers have him down. Nobody did hardcore better than Minor Threat.
Part of what attracted me to hardcore was that many of the bands didn't give a shit about image. Unlike punk rock, hardcore seemed to be mostly about the music. |

Unfortunally hardcore went that path as well now. It's more about the roughest, thoughest most gangsta looking badass tattooed mothafucka doing some ridiculous kung fu style moves ....
Fuck that shit!
I really loved Minor Threat but the 80's had so much great bands. NA, Judge, Side by side, Youth of Today, Project X, ... What an era.... still love all these bands to this day. |

My band opened up for them in the '80s.
I wasn't into the whole Straight Edge thing or the Straight Vedge or the Straight Ledge thing... but Minor Threat were a great fucking band live and much cooler in person than I expected. |

Most of these are 2nd wave hardcore bands spawned by what Minor Threat created.
Ray of Today's first MT clone band was called Violent Children haha |

One of my favorites. Just saw bad religion at Denver riot fest. Brian Baker still kills it. |

What was the name of your band?
Wrecking Crew—which the local mags changed to Blair Watson's Wrecking Crew which kind of pissed off a couple guys in the band. The night of the MT show our guitar player had to go to his girlfriend's graduation and the bass player had something similar ( I know, WTF?!!) the night of the show to which we were booked to open for. So we replaced them for the night and performed under the name Wrecked.
I left the band not long after that and it became White Noise and then Beyond Possession. |

Gotta respect Ian with the whole DIY he did with MT and Dischord. He still lives in the Dischord house. lotta great stuff on Flex Your Head. I saw the first few Fugazi shows they ever played. He has stuck with a thing and expanded on it well. Much respect from me... 2c |

fugazi is one of the best shows I've seen. Would have killed to see Minor Threat. |
