I'd like to order a deck from this website but I can't proceed trough checkout cause you need a VAT number? Been ordering on internet for over ten years but never came across such shit....
And I really need this deck.

Isn't VAT a UK tax thing?
Surely there is a UK member that could help you.

Got the solution.
Apparantly if I don't have a VAT number I can just fill in an "X" in that field. Problem solved, deck on the way!

Thx!

VAT is actually a worldwide "thing"!

Not in Australia Herwig.
Maybe under a different name but definitely not VAT.
So, not a worldwide thing.

The Value Added Tax is used primarily in Europe. It is a method to tax a good at every level of production as value is added- wood sold to board shop gets taxed, wood pressed to deck and sold to print shop gets taxed again, and so on until it reaches the consumer.

I think a similar method is called GST in Australia and other countries.

Thanks BP.
Yeah, we have GST. Introduced about 2000.

Thanks Ben!

This is what I actually meant. The taxation principle in itself. Different names but same "thing", be it VAT or GST.
You Aussies are more lucky when it comes to this kind of taxation because EU-wide the VAT is roughly +/- 20%, i.e. one fifth of the amount of what you purchase or pay is tax.
But I'm also more than sure that your Government has a way to get similar amounts from your people, it most likely has just another name.

I'll leave it up to BKB, Mosu, Charliee, Dr Freedom or Parker to discuss this further.
As I know fuck all when it comes to politics or government.

I just knew that VAT didn't exist in that name in Australia.
