***Possible spoilers***
Starting a new thread to (hopefully) protect those who haven't seen it, but plan to do so at a later date.
I waited in the lobby of my local theatre most of yesterday to see it last night and it did not disappoint. It felt like the original trilogy and was a fun watch from start to finish. Blows the prequels away. I'm glad I avoided most information about the film before watching and I can wait to see what happens next. I also can't wait to watch this one again in a few days.
How about you? |

Some comments on bits of bkb's review in the other thread.

agreed

probably right

I'm guessing she's Han and Leia's daughter (like in the books) with some inherited skills from Daddy (Han) and Granddaddy (Anakin) |

****spoilers****
I saw it and liked it. I like where the franchise is going (hopefully).
There were things I didn't like;
-way too many nods to ep. 4,5,6. An argument could be made that they just re-made all their favorite scenes from the other movies and strung them together.
-I hate when new things appear that really couldn't have happened in the other movies. (Ren stopping the plasma bolt in mid flight). I mean wtf? That little "force" trick could've come in handy a few thousand times in the previous 50 years. In ep 2 obi-wan opens a door by waving his hand...another feat that could have saved some lives in other episodes. R2 being able to fly in prequels, but not in old ones? You get the picture.
-I assume you know who dies so he can get away from Star Wars once and for all. Why does he have to be such a dick regarding the movies that everyone loves him for?
-it takes luke years to learn a little bit of the force, but this chick picks it up in 10 minutes after learning of its existence with no Jedi help.
-Han & leias dialog seems like they went back to George Lucas ...."hey George, we need an under developed and awkward script dialog between the 2 characters that can bridge the gap from the last movie and only you can fuck it up"...
The next installment better not be so derivative.
I was pleased with it overall though. |

I saw it in Real 3d barcalounger with my 7 year old girl - dead center feet up reserved seats. The only way I'll ever see another movie. She dubbed it the best movie ever (She's only seen 4, 5, 6). I thought it was a great movie vs what could have been.
I'm not overly a fanboy, but did have a few action figures as a kid. But I did buy the hype of what could or couldn't be and I thought it was great. Yeah they blew up a new Death Star - but the whole angle is all about recreating Vader, right? Sure they collected Ren and trash compactor Stormtrooper and will fix him up to be even more like Vader...left cut up on a fireball just like ol' grandpa. He's sure pissed about something. My daughter commented that he sure has issues.
Finn's parentage will be a link. Rey is uber power as both parents are Jedis...maybe why Ren stopped a laser. How many more hints could they give before and now with Han. I still laugh/believe that Harrison Ford's disdain for SW is part of the method. He's pulled off much shittier movies in his life. |

Yeah but he doesn't have to phone in a joking performance. I'm convinced that he did it just so he could dictate being killed off. His character was one of the more interesting in the series.
R2 just magically turns on after his self imposed robo-depression?
3po knows 6 million languages but thinks someone might mistake him since his arm is red (a la silver leg).
The red masked dude is the new boba fett.
Way too many similarities to IV V & VI. |
