Lost USPS box

Never had this happen before - I bought a deck from a reputable and respected shop and it was was shipped, no problem. But, according to the USPS tracking info it made it to my town and went out for delivery but was never delivered. The status has not been updated to "delivered".

I waited a week and filed a never delivered email to the USPS. Now I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Anybody ever had this happen? Will the USPS step up and reimburse me or the shop for a lost box?

I wouldn't worry so much IF you paid by credit card.
Most card companies have vendor agreements in place that refund or allow charge backs in the event a product is not delivered.
If the company or the shipping provider doesn't want to help you out, you can go this route.

Found this from https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?...p/UAeBay-outside:

13.1 How am I protected if I have a problem with a purchase?
PayPal Buyer Protection is available for purchases you make both on eBay and off eBay:
•Purchases made on eBay
•For eligible items, protection is available for both items not received (INR) and significantly not as described (SNAD); and
•Purchases made off eBay
•For eligible items protection is available for INR only

Looks like you're covered

Contact the postmaster and have him launch an investigation immediately.

Drive around your surrounding neighborhood to make sure its not sitting on someone else's porch.

Filed it with paypal. I guess eventually I'll be covered, hopefully, the shop is covered as well. It's obviously the USPS's screw up. Yesterday I stopped by the main office that covers my neighborhood and...well, they weren't the sharpest tools in the shed. TH bottle nose wasn't meant to be.

In the middle of one of these now.....

USPS Priority has automatic $50 insurance, if the package is not delivered and you contact them and open a case and they can't find it, they reimburse you the $50 insurance, but not the shipping cost. If you get a decent postal employee on the phone or at a branch then they can sometimes get you back shipping charges as well.

I almost always have problems with short distance shipping- i.e. within an hour or two from my postal code. No idea why. I currently have a deck that was shipped from SC to GA- a 1.5 hour drive (I thought about picking it up but figured it was such a short distance and the buyer paid shipping...). The deck was tracked through Greenville, SC (last hop before ATL airport area sorting station) and then nothing for the past week.

Deck cost me $500, might see $50 back from insurance, don't want to stiff the seller since he was selling to fund his wedding.... always sucks.
