I heard he struggled with prescription painkillers for a long time. Might have just had a few to many pills and drinks...

Have been digging a bit deeper to the No Use catalogue of late. As a peer and writer, he definitely could craft that recipe. You can hear Bill Stevenson all over Feel Good Record of the Year. They're all about the same song, but he could make them all different - a skill caught on by newer gent in The Gaslight Anthem, just a bit slower. New album laggin on that front. That is all.
