Oh and depending on the light the white will bleed into the yellow haze because I mixed up a yellow that is 2% to 98% alcohol and sprayed the board in very fine coats in certain areas that low level light will catch the color from the side and spread the reflection.
Stupid stuff like that goes into a prototype deck and thus that is why there is a wait sometimes.
A guy several years ago asked if I could possible make a reverse version of the color combos I use. I said sure, but had to figure it out. Since I'd have to cut by hand a concise perfectly laid out one time use paper tape stencil it was a chore. Two versions made, took 22 hours of careful color layering since the colors are not opaque and any color laying over another is done in reverse. Which means any place a lighter color lays over a darker color, there could be no darker color behind it otherwise if you spray light green over orange you'd get dark purple green.
To make a color sample takes a lot of work or to make several. There is no just one board made. There is attempts, failures and anything can go wrong at any one step and you have to start over again. No one pays for this work other then the final product if it comes out as imagined and if it is suitable by my standards first.

The red tail deck belongs to the customer.
The purple one I've yet to decide what to do with.
This is rare bird.
Because reversing the pattern and working on white is the hardest thing I do.
Any white board is prone to ever defect showing up no matter how small.
As well nothing sticks to white epoxy so had to formulate new dyes just for this project had to be formulated that wouldn't run but would disperse evenly unlike paint.
I am not going to make another ever again.
I started with 4 white boards, 2 never made it past the first few colors and had to be recycled into black painted base decks.
The purple tail version was next. That took from 9AM to 1AM of work; cutting, making reverse and positive exact maskings and then mixing time sensitive dyes that would basically dry in 20 seconds without spreading.
So I had to waste a lot of pigment to make a watery soup that once air hits the surface it cooks onto the board.
If you were to run your hands over this board you'd feels really strange, sorta like a fine sanding emery board. Because each particle of pigment is separated equally in the spread or what is called carrier.
Total pain in the ass and the guy that requested the board never paid a penny just that I said I would do it when I found the time. |
