I started skating again a while ago and it's been more than 15 years....
So now I bought a used Underhill deck to skate with but you can choose two different wheelbases for the trucks on this one. So maybe stupid question but can someone explain me what the difference will be in skating between the two different truck positions? I placed them already in the narrowest position but I've noticed that is a smaller position than on my old '89 Caballero deck.
Never questioned myself this issue in the old days.... |

Smaller wheel base is quicker, longer is more stable. Street guys typically like the smaller, because it makes it a little easier to do all the flippity do-dah stuff. |

I'm 6' and change, tend to ride only big transitions on wider setups, no kickflippity madness, and anything under 15 is hazardous to my health. I prefer a 15 3/8.
Late 70's and early 80's boards were in the 16 - 17 range
Mid 80's hovered in the 15 - 15 1/2 range.
Most all popsicles are in the 14-14.5 range with 15 being rare. |

im only 24 and been skating on and off since i was like 12.....popsicles most my life but love old school boards, been riding those for a while now, but im back to popsicles and a square nose/tail deck. I make everything 16" and I feel the stability more than anything under 15" but find whatever feels comfy and im sure you'll get used to it, im getting used to a 16" wb now |

The more you skate and hang out here, the more you'll start geeking out on the whole thing. Back in the day we mainly had ONE set up for everything and typically that set up would last a LONG time....now that you're older and can buy whatever the fuck you want, you'll find you will need multiple setups...or "quiver" (the word "quiver" drives people nuts here)
I have 6 boards in my current line up
I like the longer wheel base (15"), but also like the shorter ones on the pops, then you'll need a beer cruiser, an older set up (like the one you have) then a football shape, longboard and a old style pig re-ish with full plastics including a lapper
don't even get me started on wheels
welcome to hell |

Freaking out already believe me. Started again a few months ago and already have three decks to skate with.
McGill skull&snake, Underhill and a Powell Peralta popside 7.75"
That's also another issue, the width.... I'm going to buy an 8" now to see what difference that gives.
And indeed it's nice to be older and to buy whatever you want.
When I was 14 years old I was lucky to have one deck.
Thx 4 the replies dudes! |
