Hey everyone, wondering if anyone has any opinions on paint pens. Brand name and/or reviews. I've been considering venturing into this area and need a place to start. Any thoughts would be great. |

DECOS! They can drip a little, gotta watch the pressure. They have oil based in that doesn't fade quickly, I use it on paper, vinyl, concrete, wood, etc... Sadly, Michaels stopped stocking them.
Sharpies are hit and miss some of the ones I got drip like crazy, dry slowly, and ran out of ink quick.
Woodcrafts/Poscas... pretty much crap!
1.99 generic paint pens at Michaels aren't too bad, a little low on the pigment and smell alcohol based.
There are some other graffiti brand ones I have yet to try, like Molotows, Montana, and On the Run. I used an OTR paint pen actually, it was the best except that it was expensive compared to Decos. |

Thanks badger, have you used them in conjunction with an acrylic painting on canvas? I'm working on a painting and really need some tight lines and was thinking that if I could use the pens for line work and brush for everything else that it could save me a lot of time. |

I've used both Posca and Sharpie's. Really, both work well enough...I just prefer Sharpie's because of availability and price. Have fun and enjoy...paint pens are a blast!!
Peace,

Saegs, face it, you're gonna have to go real old school to get the look you're after...
I would recommend a good quality ruling pen and cel-vinyl. If you have any large technical pen, you might get a good liquid acrylic through it, but I'd just stick with a ruling pen. |

Hey, don't knock it, faster than a liner, more consistent line width, too. Just a potential for a mess, that's all...
Of course, you could always screen print it..... |

Well I'm just trying to think outside the box. I'm painting the Vallely mini circus board and there is such tight line work that I thought I could cheat with a black paint pen instead of painting every outline in black with a tiny brush. I'm going to try and see what happens. |

Use a ruling pen, it will look stellar. If you're not familiar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruling_pen
Cel Vinyl will flow nicely. |
