I'm partial to dark roast espresso.
Real espresso, like Starbucks did before the Mermaid lost her nipples and turned green(she used to be brown)and they started burning the beans.
Peets isn't too bad, that's where the original Starbucks dudes learned to roast beans.
Things went crappy after they sold out and the new guys at SB gave the Mermaid a nipple amputation.
These days, Starbucks seems to pipe in hot brown/black fluids from an undetermined source with a machine I can't be sure is moral or legal.
I recently learned that Nordstrom has stopped using SB(although they still use the pretentious Starbucks terms for sizes and shots), and has switched to using Coffee Bean International as a supplier instead, and while I didn't catch the name of the blend or roast, the doubleshot I had was very smooth tasting, and had a great crema on top.
And yes, I realize I lost all the drip coffee drinkers by saying "crema", but espresso is my thing.
I don't drink nearbeer often either. |

I'm a junkie.
local espresso roast/burr grinder/gaggia evolution pump machine.
Anybody here roast their own beans? My uncle got into it after he retired. I'm thinking about giving it a try, but the roasters are pricey. |

I don't roast my own, but by some strange coincidence, the guy I considered my "Skatepunk Pothead Guru" when I was 13-15 years old has his own coffee roasting company not far from where I live.
I haven't tasted any yet, but his approach seems cool: fair trade, green powered wherever possible, and names that reflect the waterfalls around here.
I plan to shoot him an email and drive out to pick up a pound myself to spare the shipping costs soon.

I'm a junkie too...and now live a block from a small roaster Polly's. They are always roasting and have 2 different coffees each day - even pop in the $$ Kona after a roasting for my morning coffee run.
I was always a Double Short Americano (Or for non SB, a double in a small cup with half water)- I drank it so often that I totally noticed the change at SB to their stupid idiot machines. SB's coffee always was burnt to hell, but my DSA was always the best (And cheap) till the new machines...and their machines charged more for a DSA than a Tall (that has 2 shots and larger cup) - got tired of explaning that shit.
I'm not picky, but when it's good, it's certainly appreciated (thank you Polly's). |

Back & bold 10 cups a day. While I drink it, I chase it down with a monster. That gets my day going. |

For best results doing the Vietnamese Iced Coffee thing:
1.Use Chicory Coffee
2. Prepare ahead-- put the condensed milk in the bottom of a glass or cup and freeze it or at least refrigerate it a while
3. Drip the coffee over the condensed milk only (have a seperate glass of ice waiting on the side). The cold condensed milk will help cool the coffee without watering it down too much.
4. Once all the coffee is dripped into the condensed milk, stir it real well, then pour it over ice.
fucking yum. too sugary for me these days. but.. fucking yum. |
