Why?
Because you would burn/rip through the slick layer. They would then peel up around the hole you tore through it. Sometimes before it actually made a hole and exposed the wood underneath, it would just bubble up from the plastic being worn thin and separate from the glue. You used to get "boobs" on your board.
They would only last a few days before you had to keep taking a razor to them to trim off the peeled up areas.
Once we had a couple holes in them, we'd take a razor and separate the slick at the nose and just peel the whole fucking sheet off. We used to use the slick sheet to make super thin risers out of (for whatever reason).
Anyway, they slid better (faster) on slick surfaces (paint, marble, etc) but the negatives of them eventually killed them. At one point (around when I stopped skating) pretty much every deck was a slick.
They also seemed to make your deck feel "dead".
Dont bring that stupid failed gimmick back. You guys want some z-rollers too? Some Bridgebolts with that? |

Wow! My thread back from the dead... I had a bunch of concepts for graphics I was working on at the time but lost motivation and it fell to the waste side...
I'd love to have some slicks made with some of the ideas I had esp if penns is saying they can be done.
I contacted these guys awhile back and they never came through with samples. They were the people who did the slick sheets for Prime when they were producing C&Ds slicks.. Prime told me it got to be to much of a headache and stopped messing with the slick stuff all together..

If Penns can do them dont even bother with REV MFG and keep the buisiness here... |

Nothing beats a traditional 7 ply imho, but I'm a huge sucker for all the old white slick decks..... |
