I would say the general concern with Chinese decks is quality control and building material. They seem to have addressed that and are willing to stand behind the product. The problem still arises that not everybody is willing to be so straightforward with that information. "Made In China" still has a negative conitation to it regarless of what Rodney says. Only the testing of his product on the streets will prove whether he is right or "wong". How the domestic manufacturors deal with the competition is another ball game.

what about the chinese wood in between the canadian layers.

what about their crap, candyass graphics.

what about the $.10 an hour they're paying those workers.

and why cant any of this be done in the states?

i dont ride their decks but i would like to know answers to those questions....b/c those are the main reasons i dont ride them. they claim they have this technology but the decks ive seen and stepped on still feel nasty.

do you work for them or are you just posting for us to check.

word.

g.

Nah,

I just want to see what people think....I also think it doesn't matter who is backing who. If the product is good, great, but the working conditions are fucked up. On another note, we all are probably using shit that people made in china in fuckeed up working conditions.... that will never change...

i guess its my turn to say something about china. i started out about 15 years ago just like all of you in this forum. i watched skate tv's powell factory tour in slow motion like 1000's of times to see what i could figure out. i spent years learning to press and print decks. all on my own in the backwoods of pennsylvania. around 92 i had a product i was proud of. at that time there were only woodshops in california, they would laugh at you if you wanted less then 1000 decks. so i began offering custom decks. before long i needed help. i was able to give jobs to all my friends, a job making skateboards, what more could you ask for? world industries used to be so progressive, in it for skateboarding. obviously you need to make money, but going to china has only 1 advantage, very very cheap labor. dwindle had its own woodshop in california, but that was not enough. all the 10 technical points in that article are things weve been doing for years. dont let them fool you. chinese manufacturing is the biggest sell-out skateboarding has ever seen.

I definitly would not favor Chinese made boards. There is no question its going to happen, and there is no question its bad for the industry. I'd say the best direction for discussion would be what sort of events/actions should domestic wood shops take? I would think the continuation of producing quality goods and sticking it out is the obvious first direction. It's certainly not going to be an enjoyable ride.

Of course, as with most civil action i and probably alot of other people believe the best course is with a boycott of companies that use chinese wood. unfortunatly there is a problem. Those people that would obey the call to boycot on the largest chinese wood user, dwindle, are not dwindles target market anyway. world especially makes all of its money off of the little kids and moms thinking the graphics look cool. How often do you see a hardcore skater buy a world deck? ahahaha i dont even have the money to afford any of that, i just ride my own companies blanks. i think that if dwindle could somehow be given a bad image with the moms, it would hurt them more than any boycott. tell me what you think

oh and a little skateboard history lesson if you didnt know it. now im not old enough to have experienced any of this for myself, im still in high school, but ive read some shit on it. anyway, world was started by steve rocco and its whole image early on was that it was an underdog against the current market leader and HUGE company, vision. world then started Blind, which was named as the antonym to vision. get it, blind, vision??? so in many ways rocco started his company and marketed it as the underdog and that the big corperation was too big to understand skateboarding, and kept prices artificially high. isnt that ridiculous now considering what world has become, and our arguments against it
