I was just walking out in the yard this morning and I saw the rose bushes loaded with flowers and thought, man, this is a good year for the roses. Got the song kinda stuck in my head, then I come in and read some news and read ol' Jones has passed. Damn, he was one of my favorites.

Fans of the Possum may dig this guys too. He started the "crooner" style country delivery that George (in my opinion) PERFECTED....kinda of a progression from Hank and those guys hard-edged clipped style.

a fucking legend! almost makes me wish I still lived in Tennessee.
NPR ran some nice archival interview recordings of GJ this morning. And tonight, I'm crying in my beer...
Best GJ stories are about him being pulled over on his riding mower, drunk off his ass, and high on coke, just trying to make it to the liquor store. What a fucking nutbag artist!
