I was there at the Street Attack...my only CA event. That was the event Vallely blew the crowd away and reeeaaly got the ball rolling for him. I took 6th in Am freestyle, and sure wish I'd've entered for street, based on the riding I saw I could've easily competed.
I had my eye on the Gonz while there as he was someone who was in the mags the most at the time. I remember watching him teach someone how to ollie up to the concrete bleacher step. Another moment (it was hot as hell there) he rode up to a kid and asked him for a drink of water, the kid handed him a half-empty gallon jug and said this is all I got...and Mark chugged it ALL. The kid was pissed. lol
I ate my first gyro sandwich while there. I got so hammered at a party the night before I was to leave that I woke up late, grabbed all my crap from the hotel room and had to run down some railroad tracks that took me straight to the bus station. I got there just as the bus was leaving....I was hollering and screaming and got him to stop the bus and wait, and folks let me cut to the front of the line to get my ticket. Oh the memories.
I saw some video on YouTube of the Pro events, sure wish there was some of the Am events as some of them were pert near as good as the Pros. |
