Anyone just about learning to silkscreen on wood is a dying art. You don't have to be proficient at it just at least try. Some days I suck at it and other days I can't even look at it.
There is as well limitations. One thing you really don't see in a lot of decks over the years is halftones. Just really doesn't work in some types of deck graphics.
Another thing is some graphics work on completed decks, others only on veneer before the deck is pressed.
I should send a screen to Hank so he can make copies. Then again I should post blueprints of how to make a basic rig. The one on DYI skateboard is a bit to complex.
All you need is a set of Jiffy clamps, 3 nails and screen close the concave of that you're printing.
The rest is just something you got to learn through pulling the squeegee several hundred times to get down your technique.
Interesting enough, no one ever made an automatic silkscreen machine work for skateboards. Works great for flat veneers but not assembled decks.
Not yet. |

thing I hate the most is not printing for a few weeks.. takes two or three decks to get the feel back... I would like to print every day if I could... I like thicker inks too... usually leave the tops off them for 3 days before printing... add some spit if its to thick... |

Well if you are the guy doing the stain work or paint first it's different thing to put a lot of time into a paint job or a beautiful stain job to have a print just not pull all the way through.
I as well have to ruin 3 to get one great deck.
Hence acetone buffing.
Acetone fixes everything.

| That is so extremely rad! I would love to skate a production model of that, have another as a cruiser, and a third one on the wall! |

Thank you, but I want to make fun of what I make so it would be cool to have a Techdeck as well as limited edition condoms maybe.
That would be so rad.
But being serious...
I can't make the image smaller then a certain size or the detail will wash out on the skull. We thought of a offset partial print that way it would go on two decks side by side. Those would be the riders. I like the idea because it would look like panels of a plane.
What you think?
