never spent much attention to it... until 2012, when I noticed some of my decks warped badly (actually 2) - and some others have a slight twist. some don't seem to have twisted at all.
the point is, I don't remember if i checked them when I got them. I know I've got some decks in the past that were sold as mint or near mint and no sign of twist was mentioned in the sale thread. Usually, I don't care if it's a slight twist... (sometimes, I wonder if there can be such a thing as a "100% staight board" - how can 25-30 year old wood stay "100%" straight? doesn't every deck have a warp if you just look hard enough?)
OK, here's my question : what humidty would you recommend for the 'board exhibition room'?? someone on here wrote something about 30-35% - Paul Schmitt speaks of 50% in the Disposable Skateboard Bible (gee, I'm looking forward to see the $ sign.. ).
I bought a humidifer recently, but I'm wondering if it actually helps?? lowest level I can adjust is 40%... and if the air humidity is around 30%, it just blows water in the air for hours and still can't bring it to 40+... ??
and who can sell me a de-twister for my Hawk and Triple X deck?? |

Recommended relative humidity for expensive acoustic guitars is 45-55% (says CF Martin guitar co and others). While skateboard decks are likely a little less fragile it's probably a good idea to - if you can - try to keep it somewhat steady over time and prevent at least the most extreme ups and downs.
Humudifiers (or dehumidifiers) capable of controlling large rooms or even apartments or houses are big and expensive to buy and to run hence why many people choose to keep expensive guitars in their casing when not being used. How 'use' translates to vintage skateboards I guess is up to you. |

thanks for the info, jchan!
actually, I bought a smaller humidifier (+/- $100) which are available at household stores. I think that's the point - if they're too small, they can't catch up with large masses of dry air... |

I got a large floor model humidifier last year as I noticed a few boards warping, after 6 months running it I got rid of it, actually seemed to do more harm then good as far as I could tell. Might have been because of such a fluctuation in humidity when it was going VS. without it it might have been a bit drier here but it was constant and not fluctuating if that makes any sense? |

interesting - i was also wondering if the fluctuations could do more harm than anything else???
any other thoughts??
anyone claiming to have a wall (!) full of un-warped decks? |

YESSS! I can claim that!
And I have the right solution for you.
Put your decks in an unheated room!!! where there is sufficient air circulation. If your flat has a circulation like the inside of a can has then board warp is something you shouldn't be astounded of. |
