They're not cheap, but then again, neither are new knees! Best investment I've made in a long time.

I was wondering if anyone has ever made their own pads.

I mean how difficult could it be?

find some with an industrial strength sewing machine. glue thess pad together to hold everything in place temporarily and then sew it up.

wet suit material, velcro, camping mat foam, elastic for straps, some plastic .

maybe its harder than I think, but...

I sewed some Neoprene from wetsuits into my old skate pants from 2 years ago after hip surgery to remove a large object from the area. It was a small bone chip that collected a few bloodclots and built up with scar tissue. I believe the term they used was a Fibrous hematoma. Anyways, for a month or 2 after the procedure i had to skate in padded pants to prevent further damage. Worked pretty damn well. Also, the pads i got from the ex, one of the plastic caps broke off on a 720 bail on monday, so I bought some ugly ass yellow shoelaces and tied the cap back to the pad.

www.ProDesigned.com

Knee - 1 and 1/3 caps, strap back (no slip over), with the 1.5" thick foam, cheetah print. Elbows to match.

Call Wild Bill at P.D. for customization. You can even send him your own material for your pads.

I got some Pro-Tec RAMP(not the crappy street ones) pads for the VA trip and I like them. They have two cups on the knees. I'm 6'1" and weigh all of 150 so if you want to talk skinny......small/mediums baby! I imagine when I skate pools and ramps more than a couple times a year I'll drop the big bucks and get some Pro Designs but for now these work great.

Pro-Designed all the time! Wild Bill will hook you up....and give you a fre lesson(s) in pad construction for as long as you care to listen (seriously, I have never heard so much about velcro in my life!). He's also got lots of features you can mix and match....straps vs. buckles, molded knee padding around cap vs. standard, etc. Bill was the fore-runner of pad evolution....all others just follow. For once, I think I agree with Stubbs here! haha
